MISSION STATEMENT

A car is a convenience and not a necessity.

 

PROLOGUE

This page is a log of the times I had to use my car. I will try to put down the date, reason and number of miles I drove the damn thing. Onstar sends me monthly updates on my car’s internal performance. I track my monthly car mileage through that. Here is a link to view the spreadsheet: link

 

CAR DEPENDENCY LOG

  1. Sunday, 13 July 08, 7 miles, Costco & Petsmart, buy crates of bottles of water and crates of wet dog food (need to come up with replacing drinking water from bottled to purified to reduce costco trips and plastic usage, need to manage to carry dog food on bike…xtracycle etc)
  2. Friday, 18 July 08, 6 miles, to work, guests left for Orlando in the morning and had to attend the Townhall meeting.
  3. Tuesday, 22 July 08, 3 miles, dinner, Walwin drove me home to install s/w, so I had to use the car to get around.
  4. Wednesday, 23 July 08, 8 miles, work, left bike at work yesterday, imp project due so may not get time to ride to lunch
  5. Thursday, 24 July 08, 10 miles, work, project submission, no time to bike to lunch.
  6. Saturday, 26 July 08, 10 miles, dog park
  7. Monday, 11 Aug 08, 20 miles, home-work-zaxby’s-home-work-home. I was very tired from the previous day’s ride to a meeting 10 miles away. No regrets.
  8. Monday, 11 Aug 08, 73 miles, picked up the new old bike from Green Cove Springs, hats off to suburbia!
  9. Wednesday, 13 Aug 08, 5 miles, home-work-Panera-home. It was raining in the morning. So, I drove in the first part of the day and rode my new old bike in the second part. I can avoid it by leaving earlier and packing my clothes in the Banjo Brother’s Panniers
  10. Thursday, 14 Aug 08, 2 miles, Gabi’s car broke down, so picked her up for work

  1. Thursday, 14 Aug 08, 9 miles, work-lunch-home-work-home. Lots of driving because I had the car with me. Without it, I would have car pooled with others for lunch etc. But I helped out Gabi, so it is in alignment with my mission statement.

  3. Tuesday, 19 Aug 08, 3 miles, home-Publix-home. Last minute panic groceries before tropical storm Fay. You can aparently buy a ton of junk food for $52.
  4. Friday, 22 Aug 08, 4 miles, home-work-home. The day after the storm was full of intense winds, tornado conditions. You could barely walk outside!
  5. Thursday, 28 Aug 08, 18.8 miles, home-Petsmart-Walmart-Thai food-home. A big bag of dog food does not fit on my bicycle. An Xtracycle can easily solve that.
  6. Friday, 29 Aug 08, 28 miles, home-Sowder residence-Charle’s place-Sowder residence-home. I drove James and Becky to Charles’s place for food and games. After ditching the car, I will have to ride with James. If I have to go alone, I will take a cab ($85 roudn trip). It sucks to not have car sharing (zip cars etc.)
  7. Sunday, 7 Sept 08, 37 miles, home-Ghosh residence-home. Will have to do this by cab as well once I go car less, at $114 round trip…OUCH!!!! but still cheaper than owning a dad-gum car :-)
